Gamers who love and live the original StarCraft RTS got some great news this week when Blizzard announced the upcoming release of StarCraft: Remastered in a press release and on Twitter.

We do not know exactly when the game will be released, but the anticipated release date is this summer. Pricing and other related information will also be released at a later date and the game will be available for PC and Mac.

StarCraft: Remastered will include content from the original StarCraft game plus the expansion, StarCraft: Brood War. Classic StarCraft gameplay will remain untouched, but the graphics will be upgraded to support widescreen UHD up to 4K resolution along with an audio upgrade. Other features include:

  • New illustrations to enhance storytelling in the campaign missions.
  • Advanced matchmaking.
  • More than 50 single-Player missions
  • Full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates.
  • Cloud saves for Campaign, Custom Maps, Replays, and Keybinds
  • Support for 13 languages (8 new languages added).

“StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime said in a statement. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”

In preparation for the upcoming release, Blizzard will be updating StarCraft: Brood War later this week to version 1.18. According to a forum post on the Team Liquid website, the patch will be released on March 30th and will include bug fixes and improvements such as an added windowed full screen or windowed mode, keybind options, observer mode, improved compatibility for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, and improved anticheat.

As an added bonus once the update is live, StarCraft Anthology, which includes the original game and the expansion, will be free to download and play.
