In an interview with EWBlade star Mahershala Ali shared a hopeful update about the upcoming Marvel Studios movie. Originally announced in 2019, the movie has had a long road. However, the update shared by Ali suggests the highly anticipated new adaptation of Blade could be heading into production soon.

A New Blade

In the years since Blade was first announced, a release date was revealed. However, that date, November 3, 2023, has already come and gone. While preproduction had continued to be underway, it was halted in May 2023 due to the Writers Guild of America strike. However, according to Ali, True Believers can look forward to finally seeing the Blade film come to fruition. “We’re working on it,” Ali told EW. “That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”

“I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at,” Ali continued. “[W]ho’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing… So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”

This is not the first time Blade will appear on the big screen. Previously, a trilogy of Blade movies starring Wesley Snipes was released. While it makes sense for the part to be recast for the Marvel Studios adaptation, the original Blade trilogy remains a cult classic. Just one example is the many allusions to the trilogy in the ongoing vampire sitcom What We Do in the Shadows. Meanwhile, Snipes plays a major antagonist on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, paying meta homage to his role as the Daywalker.

Currently, Blade is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025. You can read the EW article here.
