The Marvel news train continues to chug on as we got some casting news today. The upcoming Black Widow film has two big name actors joining the cast list and we’re pumped! According to THR, David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy) is confirmed for the cast. Meanwhile, Variety reports that Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) is in talks to join in a “key role”. Wow!
Now details are locked behind the Iron Curtain but we know the film will focus on ex-KGB member turned Avenger Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson. It’s currently unknown if the film will be a prequel or is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, there’s no indication on who Harbour could be playing. Meanwhile Weisz is in early talks to join the film but things are looking to be confirmed quickly. With the note of a “key role”, it seems she could be playing the main antagonist or someone close to Natasha (or both), though it remains unclear. They join the already cast Florence Pugh.
This is such interesting casting. While we could dive into the world of the KGB with a prequel, the developing cast is making me lean towards a current day film. How interesting would it be to have Natasha out on a SHIELD mission working a completely new team? We’ll have to wait and see but fingers crossed that we continue to get more exciting news out of the film. Do you have any thoughts on who they could be playing? Let us know!
