The next big movie venture for the DC Universe is the female hero driven, Birds of Prey.  There have been rumors about casting and who was in the mix, but Warner Brothers announced Wednesday that they have found two of their heroes.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground) will play Black Canary, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) will play Huntress. They join Margot Robbie, who is reprising her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn.

In a Gotham that is not defended by Batman, the super heroines of Birds of Prey will “battle a crime lord that is yet to be announced”, according to Deadline. Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary is a street fighter with her signature ultrasonic scream. Winstead’s Huntress will not be the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, as she was in the WB series and in some iterations. She will have a closer origin to Batman himself. The Huntress of this movie is a former mafia princess who lost her parents early in life and turned to vigilantism.

Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya have not yet been cast. Batgirl will not be featured in this film. Cassandra Cain is reportedly showing up as the vigilante, Orphan.

This is a movie with a full arsenal of amazing women at the helm. Birds of Prey was written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), is directed by Cathy Yan and produced by Robbie.

Birds of Prey is set to fly into theaters February 7th, 2020.
