We finally have some news on Birds of Prey/Gotham City Sirens thanks to TheWrap. The Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey film will be adding heroines of Gotham. They’re not only behind the mask but also with police badges. Many comic fans will know these ladies and if this news is true, we have one hell of a lineup.
The site claims that 4 characters will be joining the fray. Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya. For those needing a little reminder – here’s a quick description of each. Black Canary is excellent at hand-to-hand combat, coming from a family of crime fighters. She also has a supersonic “canary cry”, giving off ultrasonic vibrations when she screams. Huntress is a vigilante out of Gotham City who is either Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle’s daughter or daughter of a mafia crime lord. Initially written as a villain, the heroine has worked closely with Batman and the Birds of Prey. Cassandra Cain once donned the Batgirl suit but has since moved onto the vigilante role of Orphan. She’s been a part of the Titans, Batman Incorporated, Young Justice and more. Just goes to show how capable she is. Lastly we have Renee Montoya, a detective on the Gotham City Police Department. While most of her career has been with the police force, she recently donned her own mask, taking over the role of The Question.
We have no casting news, of course. But this lineup was mostly expected, given that the Birds of Prey have a few usual suspects on the team. I’m really excited for the inclusion of Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya. More diversity is always, always a good thing! Though admitedly, I was a bit excited thinking we would get Oracle on the team. Who knows, maybe we still will! With the lack of news this film is getting, I am getting a bit worried it’s in production hell. But it has to pull through. There’s going to be so many amazing ladies a part of this! Plus seeing all these heroines on screen will be such a dream for us fans of these characters.
If all of this is true, who are you most looking forward to seeing? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Birds of Prey news. Cathy Yan is set to direct with Christina Hodson on the script and Margot Robbie starring. There’s currently no information on the release date of the film.
