We have more casting news coming out of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Actress Charlene Amoia, best known as her role as Wendy the Waitress on How I Met Your Mother, has returned to the DC Universe. She recently made an appearance on CW’s The Flash but now she’s moved onto an important role!

According to Deadline, Amoia will be playing Maria Bertinelli, the mother of Helena aka Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and wife of crime lord Franco Bertinelli. Apparently her role will be rather brief as the death of her and her husband is what sets Helena off on her path of vengence. So with this news, we learn that they’re keeping the mafia storyline in tact for her backstory. In the comics, Huntress as been both Helena Bertinelli and Helena Wayne, the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.

I’m very curious to see how Huntress’ ties with the mafia will affect the group. Will she end up being in the same circle as Harley Quinn ends up in? Is that how they will tie the story together? With more casting comes more questions! I’m looking forward to hearing more about this film – I’m so intrigued. Though admittedly a bit disappointed as it was recently announced that Batgirl and the Gotham City Sirens aren’t linked to the film. I was really hoping there would be a bit of crossover there.

What do you think of the casting? Are you looking forward to the film? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC news.
