Not sure if this is a wise decision. According to THR, Billy Magnussen has been cast in the live-action Aladdin. The Guy Ritchie directed film will include Magnussen as a brand new character for the musical film, not included in the original Disney animation.
All we have learned about the role is that his character’s name is Prince Anders. So by that we can assume that the character will also be vying for Princess Jasmine’s hand. Nothing is confirmed, especially the extent of his role. But right now he joins a cast that is not overly impressive.

Personally, I think this is a mistake. I don’t see why we couldn’t have other Arabian princes trying for Jasmine’s hand. Do we really need a white prince involved? I just don’t understand it. While I’m all for new characters that deepen the plot, this seems like a step in the wrong direction. And I was already upset with the casting of Will Smith as Genie. So far, this film isn’t shaping up very well.
