Well look what we have here. Billy Dee Williams is coming back, everyone! According to THR, Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX. Yes, you read that correctly. We’re getting more Lando. After Donald Glover‘s fantastic rendition in Solo: A Star Wars Story, I guess it was time to bring him in. Also heck yes for more casting news this week!
Rumors were starting to swirl about his involvement when he bowed out of a convention appearance. And thank goodness he’s involved! The actor has been returning to the character in various animations and video games. Not only that, but he’s been vocal about his lack of appearance in the new franchise. And it makes sense. After his first appearance in Empire Strikes Back, he became an important member to our favorite Rebels. So where would the smoothest man in the galaxy have been this whole time?

Well, we have no answers on that for now. But I’d like to think he was still out in a corner of the galaxy hustling like Han was. It’s hard to break habits. And with that, he’ll be able to help our small Resistance. He will also be the last original trilogy human character to lend his hand to our new heroes. I’m really excited to see what they do with him, honestly. He’s such a fun character. And he’ll be the only one left to see The First Order fall just as the Empire did all those years ago. …that was a bit depressing, sorry. But yay Lando’s back!
What do you think of Billy Dee Williams making his triumphant return? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Star Wars news. Star Wars: Episode IX is currently filming for a December 20, 2019 release date.
