We learned that the video game Beyond: Two Souls will be adapted to television by Elliot Page‘s PageBoy Productions. It’s the latest in a trend of high-profile game adaptations like The Last of Us and Fallout. Could Beyond: Two Souls be poised to become the next big hit?

Beyond: Two Souls

The Beyond: Two Souls video game was originally released for PlayStation 3 in October 2013. A PlayStation 4 release followed in November 2015. The game was developed by Quantum Studios and published by Sony Entertainment. It was written and directed by David Cage.

The game’s story centers on Jodie Holmes, played by Page and Caroline Wolfson (Young Jodie). Since birth, Jodie has possessed a connection to a supernatural entity called Aiden. After a fatal disaster, Jodie is placed under the care of Nathan Dawkins (Willem Dafoe) and Cole Freeman (Kadeem Hardison), doctors at the United States Department of Paranormal Activity. In addition to helping Jodie understand how to control the powers she shares with Aiden, the doctors are also attempting to build a portal to the “Infraworld.”

Beyond: Two Souls featured not only voice-over performances from the cast but motion capture performances as well. Footage from the game debuted at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, only the second time that a video game was recognized by the festival. While the game received mixed reviews, the performances by Page and Dafoe were praised by critics.

According to Deadline, the adaptation will “explore the game’s non-linear narrative, following Jodie’s journey from government experiment to fugitive as she navigates her abilities and her connection to Aiden.”
