We here at GGA love WEBTOON series. We have an entire Saturday Morning Webtoons column dedicated to sharing our favorites. And then, we spend the vast majority of our time reading and rereading them. So, of course, we have a list of our favorite WEBTOON series of 2022. Now, these are all series that we read and loved this year but may have been released previously. And this is entirely a list of series we like, which may vary from yours. So be sure to share your favorite WEBTOON series of 2022 with us in the comments below and on social media!

Ghost on the Roof
Retellings of my favorite stories are some of my favorite WEBTOON series, and Klaus Scrimshaw‘s Ghost on the Roof is high on that list. If the name didn’t give it away, it’s a retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. It follows Christine, a young opera singer looking to get her foot back in the door after a terrifying accident during an audition. It’s got all the drama of the original series, and the art style is to die for.

Lore Olympus
Another WEBTOON retelling on the list (I told you I loved them) is Rachel Smythe‘s Lore Olympus. There is a reason that this retelling of The Taking of Persephone has been making waves since its release. It’s modern, hype and dramatic with a capital D. And Smythe’s art style is unique and vibrant, and the way each panel flows into the next is award-worthy. And we aren’t the only ones who think so.

The Kiss Bet
We all love those high school dramas where two young people fall in love. We watch them on tv and read about them in young adult novels. So, of course, we love Ingrid Ochoa‘s The Kiss Bet. It isn’t just all about romance. It’s about friendship, finding yourself, learning to use your voice, and so much more. Honestly, if you haven’t started this series, I highly suggest hitting it first.

Batman: Wayne Family Adventures
If there are two things I love, it’s Batman and WEBTOON series. So the DC collab that kicked off one of my favorite collaborations of all time is, of course, one of my favorite series of 2022 – Batman: Wayne Family Adventures. Of course, it includes some kick-ass action scenes and crime fighting, but its focus on family is where it has my heart. Getting the chance to see the Bat-family in their feels definitely gets me in mine.

Purple Hyacinth
If I had to give an award for the most times I have spit out my drink while reading a WEBTOON series, it would go to Purple Hyacinth‘s Sophism and Ephemerys. Those two must live off of the tears of their readers, mine especially. Yet, I will let them break my heart over and over just to know what is happening in this world and watch Lauren uncover the truth behind every mystery out there.
Purple Hyacinth updates every Tuesday and can be read here!
Of Swamp & Sea
Mia Jay and Laurel Boulton‘s Of Swamp & Sea is one of my all-time favorite WEBTOONs. If I had to make a list at the end of time, it would be on it. They have given us a fantasy, supernatural series set in a beautiful yet mysterious world with fantastic characters. I mean, look at Mercy. We did an entire Crush of the Week talking about our favorite spirit-possessed bookworm.
Of Swamp & Sea updates every Wednesday and can be read here!

Third Shift Society
As a kid, I fell in love with the story of Sleepy Hollow. So, of course, I can’t help but love Meredith Moriarty‘s Third Shift Society. I started reading it solely on the fact that Icabod had a pumpkin head. This isn’t a retelling, but who cares! I love Ellie, who does her best to wrap her head around this supernatural adventure. With every piece of this story, I can’t help but find myself begging Moriarty to update faster.
Third Shift Society updates every Friday and can be read here!
Shiloh
If there was ever a series that caught my interest from page one, it was Kit Trace and Kate Flynn‘s Shiloh. There was just something about the art, the way they told the story and the characters that kept me invested. And while I usually try to find stories with a limited number of additional plotlines, I love how spread out this one is. Each character has something going on that will keep you invested until they finally bring it to an end.

The Prince of Southland
If a WEBTOON took me by complete surprise this year, it was Chris Geroux‘s The Prince of Southland. This romance series is everything I want and will continue to want until it’s finished. It’s scandalous and dramatic, and I can’t stop reading. What makes it so much better is that it’s more than just a romance series. The conversations that come into play on the laws behind AI and human dating relate heavily to the real world. It gives readers much to think about outside of Donnie and Jensen’s relationship.
The Prince of Southland updates every Wednesday and can be read here!
Nonesuch
And what might just be one of my favorite WEBTOON series of the year is The Bitsy Artist’s Nonesuch. It’s the mix of mystery, supernatural and the fact that Connor sports a National Park jacket and Bridget is just a badass. Also, toss in the old western town with its secrets, and I’m sold. Absolutely sold. It’s still early in the series, but I have high hopes for this story and can’t wait to see where things go.
Nonesuch updates every Tuesday and can be read here!
