Star Trek has had many stellar guest stars over the years. However, one of these guest stars has played nine roles across four series: Jeffrey Combs.

For this week’s entry of Trek Tuesday, we’re running down all of the roles played by Combs. Which one is your favorite?

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Originally, Combs auditioned to play the role of William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, as we all know, that role instead went to Jonathan Frakes. Years later, Frakes directed the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 3 episode “Meridian.” Remembering Combs, Frakes cast him as the alien Tiron. This was the first of nine roles that Combs would play for the Franchise.

Later in Deep Space Nine Season 3, Combs stepped into his first recurring guest star role, as Brunt. This agent of the Ferengi Commerce Authority first appeared in the episode “Family Business.” An adversary of Quark (Armin Shimerman), Brunt would appear in seven episodes of Deep Space Nine. In addition, Combs played the Mirror Universe variant of Brunt in Season 7’s “The Emperor’s New Cloak.”

The role that earned Combs the most appearances was Weyoun(s). Thanks to the fact that this Dominion lackey was cloned numerous times, Combs was able to appear as several incarnations of the character. When one Weyoun died, the next would simply take his place. This began with Weyoun 4’s sole appearance in Deep Space Nine Season 4’s “To the Death.”

Next was the most long-lived of the clones, Weyoun 5. He first appeared in Deep Space Nine Season 5’s “Ties of Blood and Water.” Weyoun 5 appeared in 11 episodes total. Combs also played a Wormhole Alien that had adopted the guise of Weyoun 5 in Season 6’s “Sacrifice of Angels.” Likewise, he played a hologram version of Weyoun 5 in three Season 6 episodes: “Statistical Probabilities,” “Inquisition” and “In the Pale Moonlight.” Finally, an illusion of Weyoun 5 appeared in Season 6’s “Waltz.”

One of the most memorable of Combs’ many appearances on Deep Space Nine was in Season 6’s “Far Beyond the Stars.” In this episode, Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) experiences an alternate reality. This includes appearances from the series regulars and major guest stars. However, they are all playing human variants of themselves. Combs played Kevin Mulkahey, a sort of human variant of Weyoun.

In Deep Space Nine Season 7’s “Treachery, Faith and the Great River,” Combs played Weyoun 6. He also played Weyoun 7 in that episode, a character who would appear in three additional Season 7 episodes. In Season 7’s “Strange Bedfellows,” Combs played both Weyoun 7 and Weyoun 8. Weyoun 8 would appear in five Deep Space Nine episodes total. This includes the series finale, “What You Leave Behind.” Combs also appeared in an uncredited cameo in “What You Leave Behind,” as one of the human guests in the holosuite.

Combs also appeared in a single episode of Star Trek: Voyager. In Season 6’s “Tsunkatse,” he played Penk, the coordinator of the titular sporting event.

Next, Combs played two roles on Star Trek: Enterprise. The first is the recurring character Thy’lek Shran, an Andorian. First appearing in Season 1’s “The Andorian Incident,” Shran appeared in nine episodes of Enterprise total. In addition, Combs played a hologram of Shran in the series finale, “These Are the Voyages…” The second role Combs played on Enterprise was Krem the Ferengi in Season 1’s “Acquisition.” In this episode, he appeared alongside three other Star Trek alums playing Ferengi: Clint Howard as Muk, Matt Malloy as Grish and Ethan Phillips as Ulis.

The fourth Franchise series to feature Combs in a guest starring role was Star Trek: Lower Decks. In the Season 2 episode “Where Pleasant Fountains Lie,” Combs voiced AGIMUS the malicious sentient computer. AGIMUS next appeared in a cameo role in Lower Decks Season 3’s “A Mathematically Perfect Redemption.” And in Season 4’s “A Few Badgeys More,” AGIMUS began walking the path to redemption after being changed by his relationship with Peanut Hamper (Kether Donohue).
