Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like gaming on a phone or tablet, this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures.

Today is Mar10 Day which means we celebrate the most famous plumber of all time. For 40 years this brave Brooklyn native has been stomping Koopas and saving princesses. So let’s revisit the mobile games that feature our favorite mustachioed hero and see what events are in store for Mario’s special day. For more details on these titles, check out our previous Mobile Game Monday breakdowns of Mario Kart Tour and Super Mario Run.

Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour is the mobile adaptation of Nintendo’s fan-favorite racing franchise. Released in 2019, this mobile version of Mario Kart lets you carry your favorite racers in your pocket. Race on famous Mario Kart tracks against players online or play with a friend locally. Mario Kart Tour features a huge selection of racers, karts, and gliders to collect but this time around our focus is Mario.

Just some of the Mario variations available in Mario Kart Tour include White Tanooki, Classic, Metal, King, Tanooki, and Baby.

To celebrate Mario Day, Mario Kart Tour is running a special event featuring Mario-themed challenges. Complete these challenges for special badges that you can display for all to see. Additionally, complete all of the challenges and you will receive the classic Mario racer. Take advantage of better rewards in the token shop like high-end drivers, karts, gliders and boost tickets. Play daily Coins Aplenty or Tokens Aplenty runs to stack up your resources. Players who participate in the daily Coins Aplenty event can earn up to 20,000 coins. Wahoo, that’s a lot of loot!

The Mario Event includes special rewards including the Rainbow Pipe Buggy, Freerunning Koopa, the 8-bit Pipe Frame, the 8-bit Super Glider, and the Classic Mario Racer.

If you place high enough in the Mario Tour ranking, get the Rainbow Pipe Buggy and Freerunning Koopa. Score a high rank in the second half of the tour and also receive the Gold 8-bit Pipe Frame Kart. For the Mario Tour only, purchase Gold Premium Challenges to earn a total of 42 rubies, four golden pipes, and the Gold 8-bit Glider.

Additionally, for the first half of the Mario Tour, get a discount on your first purchase of King Mario, the 8-bit Pipe Frame Kart, and the 8-bit Super Glider. You can buy these items with rubies earned from winning races and completing challenges. For the second half of the tour, the first purchase of another round of items will be discounted. The Mario Tour ends on March 19 which is plenty of time to win some races and snag some stars.

Mario Kart Tour is free in the Google Play Store and App Store.

Super Mario Run

Super Mario Run is a platform game released for mobile devices in 2016 where players run and jump through quick levels. Play as Mario and friends as you tap your way through one level after another. Remix 10 game mode offers a run through ten short but consecutive levels. Try the World Tour which offers six worlds with four levels apiece or gather Toad subjects for your kingdom in Toad Rally. Earn new characters and decorations for your very own mini mushroom kingdom. Only a small portion of the game is available for free but you can unlock the entire game for a one-time fee of $9.99.

This is one of the simplest Mario games I have ever played but it is still pretty fun. It is a great option if you are out and about and just really want to play some Super Mario (it happens to me all the time). I also love being able to have a little Mushroom Kingdom to decorate and I have never seen that mechanic in any other Mario game. Sadly, Super Mario Run is not having any events for the big day but it is still a great addition to your Mario Day to-do list.

Super Mario Run is “free” in the Google Play Store and App Store.

Our Adventure Ends Here

Mario means so much to me. Super Mario Bros. was the very first video game I played at three years old and it changed my life forever. Since then, I have played (and beaten) just about every Mario game available. But my favorite thing about this franchise is that I can now play my favorites with my kids who now also love Mario. First, we started with the classics and worked our way through the ever-growing Mario catalog.

Whether we are working together in Super Mario Wonder or competing in Mario Kart, the franchise is synonymous with friends, family, and, fun. Nowadays, just about everyone has a phone on them at all times so with these titles, it has never been easier to play the beloved franchise anytime, anywhere. Thank you Mario for all of the good times and here’s to 40 more years of fun!
