Showtime’s mini-series Patrick Melrose, starring Benedict Cumberbatch has an official trailer. It is funny, upsetting, charming and definitely NSFW. Cumberbatch plays the title character who introduces himself as “Narcissistic, schizoid, suicidal alcoholic” and that’s not the half of it.
The trailer was released Friday. The mini-series, based on the semi-autobiographical series of novels by Edward St. Aubyn will be in five parts, each based on one of the books. The story focuses on the abusive upbringing, subsequent substance abuse and recovery of Patrick Melrose. It takes place in three different times in three different countries. In the ‘South of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s and Britain in the early 2000s.’ Hugo Weaving and Jennifer Jason Leigh play Cumberbatch’s abusive father and complicit, detached mother; respectively.
