In Burbank, CA there’s a studio called Warner Brothers and that studio owns the film rights to DC Comics. They’ve already made a few of these films in what we refer to as the DC Extended Universe, and they’re going to make quite a few more.
One of those films, which came out earlier this year, was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That film featured Ben Affleck in the role of Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman. Almost everyone who saw the film would agree that Affleck’s portrayal of Batman was one of the film’s highlights.
So it should come as no surprise that Warner Brothers has a new solo Batman movie in the works, written and directed by Ben Affleck, and up until now we’ve not known the name of it. But now we do.
In an interview promoting his newest film, The Accountant, Affleck confirmed that the name of the standalone Batman film will simply be — The Batman.
As he told The Associated Press,
“The movie I think is going to be called ‘The Batman’. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it… That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it.”
That’s it. No subtitles or anything else, just The Batman. And of course, that could change, but the world as a whole is hoping it won’t.
There have been plenty of rumors surrounding this film about who the villains will be. Some have said we’d see the return of Leto’s Joker, others have said we’d see an adaptation of the Hush storyline. We know that Deathstroke will be featured in it, played by Joe Manganiello, but no one knows to what capacity just yet.
All we know for certain is that the film’s title will simply be, The Batman.
