The big news dropped Thursday that Ben Affleck will return as Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman for The Flash film starring Ezra Miller. Andy Muschietti will direct the film.

“He’s [Batman} a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” Muschietti told Vanity Fair. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

What’s more interesting is that there will be two Batmans in this film. Michael Keaton is also returning as Bruce Wayne from the Tim Burton‘s Batman franchise. According to Vanity Fair, The Flash film will involve travelling between universes. However, don’t expect Robert Pattinson’s Batman to appear. That would be really cool, though.

The multiverse is well established after the last Arrowverse crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths when Miller appeared in The CW’s The Flash episode. Although there are some deep questions about that appearance since most of the multiverse was destroyed. Wouldn’t it be cool if Grant Gustin showed up as The Flash in this film, too?! Unfortunately, there are no talks with Gustin, but there’s still time…

We’ll have more information on The Flash film later today from DC FanDome. The Introducing Flash panel happens at 2:40 PM Eastern today. You can watch on the DC FanDome website.
