It’s Showtime

He’s the ghost with the most, babe. Beetlejuice fans, rejoice: Tim Burton‘s highly anticipated sequel that’s been 36 years in the making has a new title and a ghostly new poster to match. Originally called Beetlejuice 2, the creative team and Warner Bros. have opted for something more apropos with the film’s mythology.

Drum roll, please, for … Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. One must assume this is to leave room for a third movie because you can only summon ole BJ if you say his name three times. The poster features our titular character’s hands as he holds a white slip of paper with the numbers “09, 06, 24” in light green text. “The Wait Is Almost Over” is scrawled at the top of said poster. The paper is a nod to the Neitherworld Waiting Room in the 1988 original film.

I Myself Am Strange and Unusual

Director Tim Burton is back at the helm for this sequel. His Wednesday collaborators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, penned a draft of the script. David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith have also written an earlier screenplay.

The film stars Michael Keaton, who reprises his role as everyone’s favorite mischievous ghost. Winona Ryder also reprises her role as Lydia Deetz, along with Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. The new main cast includes Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s daughter; Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s wife; Burn Gorman, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe

My Whole Life Is a Dark Room

Admittedly, I was hesitant to accept this sequel with open arms. Firstly, the gap between both movies is longer than I’ve been alive. Secondly, sequels tend to pale in comparison to their predecessors. That said, this cast is stacked, and I’m cautiously optimistic that this will feel like prime Tim Burton from the ’80s and ’90s. It’s showtime, indeed.

You can check out the poster below. Return to the spooky world of BJ and his buds when the film hits theaters on September 6, 2024.
