A new look was unveiled by BBC for the upcoming Doctor Who season featuring the first female doctor played by Jodie Whittaker. In addition to a new doctor, the new season will have a new showrunner, Chris Chibnall, and a new cast members, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh.
The new poster featured the Doctor and the Tardis in silhouette with the new golden logo brandished between them. According to BBC America, Chris Chibnall and Executive Producer Matt Stevens worked closely with creative agency Little Hawk to create the new logo.
Along with the new look, there was also a short animation released. And let me say a few words about this. The animation, shows the Tardis traveling through time and crossing gold lines which are in fact the new logo. But when the Tardis is finished, a lovely design is left. I’d like to think of it as a nod to our new female doctor. Take a look and see if you caught what I did. I’ll show you what I’m talking after the video.
The Tardis ends her journey traveling through the ‘H’ and the ‘O’ and leaves the mark of her path. This mark looks incredibly like the symbol for the female sex. I find it hard to believe this wasn’t intentional and I love it. Are you still not with me? Take a look at this:
I rest my case! This new season of Doctor Who doesn’t premiere until Fall 2018. In the meantime, don’t worry, official Doctor Who merchandise featuring this new logo and Jodie Whittaker will be available at selected retailers from February 20th, 2018.
