Last fall BBC announced that it was bringing a Doctor Who spinoff called Class to BBC Three in 2016. Last week at TCA’s (Television Critic’s Association), it was announced that Class would also air on BBC America.
The series is from American YA novelist Patrick Ness. Class will be an eight episode season which centers around Coal Hill School where Clara Oswald used to teach. In the series, “incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected.”
The show will target the young adult demographic. Ness had this to say:
“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself,” said Ness. “I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams,” he joked.
Class will be co-produced by BBC America, produced by BBC Cymru Wales.
Class is set to premiere in 2016.
