We’re so ready for this! According to Variety, Batwoman is getting her own series developed for The CW that ties into the Arrowverse. Only a short time after it was announced that she would be making a cameo on Arrow, she’s getting her own story, should the series get picked up. If I do a fist pump in the air, do you think you’ll know how excited we are for this? We don’t know much, but here’s the little we do know.
Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Smallville) will be serving as a writer and executive producer of the series. Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter would all executive produce under their respective production companies. And should the series be picked up (it will), it will focus on Kate Kane as she tries to become a vigilante while battling her own demons. Variety has a little snippet of the plot.

In the series, Kate Kane, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
It’s a nice little work around to not being able to use Batman, Robin, or any other Bat family member. But it’s a series that is completely deserved and one that’s a long time coming. Batwoman/Kate is a wonderful character. She’s complex and intelligent and a figure that anyone can look up to. If I may digress, Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III Batwoman run Elegy is fantastic. But really, we need more diversity on the screen. And an out Jewish lesbian is something the world of superheroes deserves. And you can’t really go wrong with Berlanti in there.
So what do you think of a Batwoman series? Are you as excited as we are? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Arrowverse news.
