The very first comic in the Webtoon x DC crossover event kicked off today and I couldn’t be happier. I wasn’t sure what I was going to expect when they originally announced the partnership and I’ll be honest, a slice of life Batman comic was not it. But after binging the first three episodes of Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, I know this is exactly what I needed.
CRC Payne writes the story with art from StarBite. They are assisted by Kielamel Sibal, Lan Ma, C.M. Cameron and Camille Cruz. Batman: Wayne Family Adventures opens as Duke Thomas, known as The Signal, moves into Wayne Manor alongside the current Robin – Damien Wayne and Bruce himself. As he gets settled in, we get the chance to see Damien give him a tour and Bruce welcome him into the Bat-family.

We get even more surprises throughout the second and third episodes that take this Webtoon from a badass fighting comic like we are so used to seeing to the family slice of life genre. There is a fight for the last of Alfred’s homemade cookies, which pit Damien, Duke, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain and Bruce against each other. Of course, Alfred gets it in the end. We also get the chance to see Barbara Gordon as Oracle helping the team out with a bit of frustration.
We haven’t gotten the chance to see the original Robin yet. But I’m sure Dick Grayson will make his appearance eventually, especially since he appears in the promotion images. You can’t have the Bat-family without the big brother. I’m just saying. Now, I am sure we will get the chance to see more action out of Batman: Wayne Family Adventures; I love that the idea is that this is what happens outside of that. Watching their interactions is going to be great!
But it isn’t just the overarching story so far that has heightened my enjoyment. It’s the little things. Like during the stand-off for the last cookie, Bruce has a “worlds okayest father” mug. Or when Barbara has to remind Damien of the note Bruce left behind, reminding him that he is too young to drive the batmobile.
If this is what the Webtoon x DC crossover event offers as their first creation, I can’t wait to see what comes next. I just hope they take the chance to gives us a few different genres. Maybe a horror/thriller one just in time for Halloween? Or an action one that really dives into the crime-fighting superheroes of the DC universe.
Make sure to check out the first three episodes of the Batman: Wayne Family Adventures and add it to your must-read list! Plus, if you are so inclined, you can fast pass the next three episodes!
