This is a great trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!
Their third one should have been their second and this should have been their last full trailer! It’s filled with emotion, character motivations and stakes that are enough to make us care and believe that their could be some truly great story-telling here.
Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) comes from a long line of hunters and that’s all his family knows. It’s a legacy that Bruce doesn’t take lightly, even if he doesn’t necessarily love the job. Clark Kent comes from a farm where Superman (Henry Cavill) was just a dream — he wants to be better, doesn’t want to be this havoc-wreaking monster of an alien, but that’s what he is. And Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is between the two boys fighting, wishing they could share.
But possibly the best part of this trailer is hearing Superman tell Batman that he can take him in “without breaking him.” Finally, we’re close to possibly getting the Superman of hope that fights for right but won’t kill.
And Batman is so existential, ending the trailer with, “the world only makes sense if you force it to.”
There’s a lot going on this film and this trailer, finally, scratches the surface of the emotional undercurrents in a meaningful way. The other trailers have shown us some kick ass visuals, shown us the world, the conflict and a Batman we all recognize as the vigilante we love to cheer for, but this trailer shows us the story also has some heart.
