In a Variety article talking to Ben Affleck about his film, Live by Night, we also got a little news about his upcoming film, The Batman. That news, specifically, is his projected start date for filming.

As the article says, “Affleck indicated that he expected the film will begin shooting in the spring.”

They then went on to quote Affleck, saying, “We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

Obviously, Affleck will be reprising his role as the caped crusader for the film, as will Jeremy Irons in the role of the dutiful butler, Alfred Pennyworth. We also know that Joe Manganiello is playing Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, but beyond that, we’ve got no casting news.

With a spring start date, it seems likely that in a couple more months we’ll start getting some more casting rumors for the film, which will start to give us a better idea of what we can actually expect from it. We can also expect a release date later in 2018. At least that’s our guess.

Affleck went on to praise the films that came before him, saying —

“I respect all of those [Batman] movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

Surely, with the filmmaking acumen we’ve seen Affleck demonstrate, we can expect his version of to make par.
