This past Saturday, September 21st was Batman Day the 80th anniversary of the caped crusader. Many cities across the globe lit up iconic buildings with Bat-Signal at night in honor of one of the most popular comic book characters of all time. The annual celebration didn’t come without it’s share of surprises either as there was an announcement by DC Comics revealing the new writer set to take over for Tom King on the main Batman title, as well as a cryptic tease possibly regarding another batman video game!

NEW BATMAN WRITER

DC has announced the new writer that is set to take over for Tom King starting in January of next year. King will move to a new title, Batman/Catwoman, in order to finish out his long running story arc that began in issue #1. Dan Dido made the announcement alongside of New 52 Batman writer Scott Snyder, that James Tynion IV, current Justice League and former Detective Comics writer will be taking over with Peter J. Tomasi as the new featured artist. Tynion has written several arcs for The Dark Knight including co writing the Batman Eternal event during The New 52 run, while Tomasi has also his own extensive past on various Batman titles. It’s going to be interesting to see what Tynion is going to do with Batman once he gets the chance specifically with certain characters who may or may not have died during King’s run. We already know that Dick Grayson, better known as Nightwing, will be fully recovering from his amnesia once the new creative team takes over. Dick was shot in the head during Batman #55, and while he survived his memory was essentially erased by the bullet.

NEW BATMAN ARKHAM GAME?

DC Comics wasn’t the only company to make an announcement however as WB Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins, dropped the following tweet after not being active on Twitter in over 4 years.

The video shows one of the buildings lit up by the Bat-Signal, however every couple of seconds a frame flashing different symbols on the screen is shown. Many people are speculating that the game will involve both The Court of Owls and The League of Shadows, two shadowy organizations working independently to take Batman down. A new game certainly seems imminent and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for news on this one regarding timeline placement etc as it’s sure to be set in the Arkhamverse. Will it be continuing it’ previous storyline with Bruce Wayne or will we be seeing a new protagonist wearing the cape and cowl? I for one can’t wait to hear an official announcement regarding the game, the Arkham series are some of the best video games every made and it would be a ton of fun to return to that world.

Happy Batman Day!
