This is MOST exciting news! Geek God Joss Whedon is currently in talks to direct, write and produce a Batgirl solo film. According to Variety, the deal is nearing completion. And yes, the film will be a part of their DCEU.

So far, no other producers or stars are currently set on the project, just Whedon. But that’s all we need, right? There’s also no word as to whether she will become Oracle but the article claims there will be “other characters from the world of Gotham”. The Bat family is filled with so many good characters so we don’t know who will be joining her and who she’s be fighting against but it’s all exciting. Maybe we’ll get our first live action Nightwing as well! Ben Affleck’s Batman is bound to make an appearance, too.

This will not be Batgirl’s first live action appearance, though. Alicia Silverstone played the character in the ill fated Batman and Robin. She was also featured in the live action Batman show from the 60s. In addition to live action, she’s made appearances in multiple animated features, very recently in The Killing Joke and The Lego Batman Movie. And with Whedon’s feminist hands, we’re bound to have a female lead we’ve all been needing in the superhero film universe.

What do you think of the news? Are you looking forward to Whedon’s debut in the DCEU? Let us know and be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Batgirl news!
