Batgirl has been looking for a way on to the big screen for a long time. It’s been on again, off again, and on and off and now, it’s on again! After Joss Whedon left the project early this year, writer Christina Hodson has been brought on to pen the script and take it in a new direction.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hodson, who wrote the upcoming Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee, will write Batgirl as commissioner Gordon’s daughter, Barbara. That’s not a surprise, as that is the most well-known version of the character. It was also Whedon’s plan before he humbly bowed out of helming the project for lack of story. The project Hodson is working on is a different one than Whedon left, though. The studio is moving forward with Hodson and ‘a new movie project.’
This Batgirl film has so much interest behind it, and the floor just keeps falling out from under it. I, for one, am very happy to see that a woman is being brought forward to write the story of one of DC’s most popular heroines for the big screen. Maybe this time the project will fly. Fingers crossed, Batgirl fans!
