The Flash returns to the CW with Barry on the wrong side of the law. In the trailer for the winter premiere, Barry (Grant Gustin) professes his innocence after being framed for Clifford DeVoe’s (Neil Sandilands) murder. Team Flash works to keep Barry from going to prison. There’s one thing that will save Barry…he has to reveal that he is the Flash.

So how did we get here? If you recall, Clifford DeVoe revealed himself as the man behind Barry’s return. DeVoe created the samuroid that threatened Central City, causing Team Flash to rescue Barry. The dark matter from the speedforce hit a bus load of people, twelve to be exact, giving them meta powers. While Team Flash has been busy finding the twelve new meta humans, DeVoe aka The Thinker set a plan in motion to find a particular one. See, DeVoe’s body was dying, but his brain was supercharged. He found a meta, Dominic Lanse (Kendrick Sampson) had telepathic abilities. DeVoe transferred his consciousness into Dominic. And then framed Barry for murder by planting DeVoe’s dead body in Barry’s apartment. Whew! That’s a lot of work to try and destroy someone.

Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) got married this season as well! Will Dominic/DeVoe use her against Barry? And Dominic befriended Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) before his transformation. Giving DeVoe full access to Team Flash.

Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash in CW’s The Flash,

The question remains, why does DeVoe want Barry out of the way? DeVoe told Barry he will bring forth the Enlightenment. Is Barry the only hero that can stop the Enlightenment? Remember the strange markings that Barry was drawing when he escaped the speed force. I wonder if those have something to do with how he defeats DeVoe. Come on, Barry has to beat DeVoe. He’s The Flash!

In the trailer, we see Barry working with Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) to try and clear his name. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and Ralph Dibney (Hartley Sawyer) conduct their own investigation. And it looks like Joe is willing to go beyond the law to save Barry. The prosecution has a strong lawyer who questions Barry’s free time. Marlize DeVoe (Kim Engelbrecht) even testifies and you know Iris will have something to say to her. Check out the trailer for “The Trial of The Flash.” below.

As Barry’s trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris and Joe must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison.
