One of the queen’s of HP Lovecraft inspired horror, Barbara Crampton is heading back to her roots in the upcoming film from Dread, Sacrifice. It is inspired by Paul Kane‘s short story, Men of the Cloth which has a very Lovecraftian vibe. Sophie Stevens and Ludovic Hughes will also star alongside Crampton from a script from writer-directors Andy Collier and Tor Mian. EW shared an exclusive trailer for the film. It has everything from old tales, seas monsters and lots of tentacles. I’d recommend not eating while watching the trailer, it gets a bit gruesome.

Sacrifice follows an American couple, Emma and Isaac. They return to the remote Norwegian village of Issac’s birth to claim an unexpected inheritance. It is here they meet Crampton’s character, a local police officer who agrees to help introduce them to the small town’s history. The trailer quickly unfolds the true nature of the cult-like village and what appears to be a plot to kidnap Emma’s unborn baby. Or use them as a vessel for The Slumbering One or honestly some other nefarious reasons.
The Sacrifice trailer is almost like a checklist for Lovecraft inspired content. Weird remote village? Check. A creepy tale about a mythical creature? Check. Secret cult bent on raising an Old God? Check. My only hope is that the film has more to offer outside of what we have been shown. Check out the trailer here and let us know what you think!
The film costars Dag Sorlie, Erik Lundin, Jack Kristiansen, Johanna Adde Dahl and Lukas Loughran.
Sacrifice will premiere in select theaters on February 5, 2021 and on-demand on February 9, 2021. The film will be released on Blu-ray on February 23, 2021.
