Ayo Edebiri is transferring from a chaotic kitchen to an equally (and adorably) chaotic elementary school. As reported by Variety, The Bear star will join Season 2 of Abbott Elementary in a highly anticipated role.
Janine Teagues (creator and star Quinta Brunson) addresses her complex relationship with her sister throughout the series. Edebiri will portray said sister, Ayesha Teagues. She’ll debut on the hit ABC sitcom on Wednesday, February 8, in the show’s Valentine’s Day-themed episode. Edebiri will appear on FaceTime conversing with, presumably, Brunson’s Janine.
Variety also reveals Edebiri will return later in Season 2 for a “larger storyline.”
Ayo Edebiri is best known for her star turn as Sydney Adamu opposite Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in FX’s comedy-drama, The Bear. Season 2 arrives early this summer. Additional credits include the voice of Missy Foreman-Greenwald in Netflix’s Big Mouth, Hattie in Apple TV Plus’s Dickinson and Sundance 2023 feature hit Theater Camp as Janet Welch. She can next be seen in the 2023 comedy Bottoms and an undisclosed role for Marvel’s Thunderbolts, slated for release in 2024.
Edebiri is also a writer, having written for What We Do in the Shadows (Season 4 episode “Private School”) and worked as a staff writer on the aforementioned Dickinson.
“Valentine’s Day,” Edebiri’s Abbott Elementary debut, finds the teachers discussing their love lives and relationships. Meanwhile, Janine discovers one of her students carries a torch for her and Ava (Janelle James) observes Jacob’s (Chris Perfetti) Black History class after receiving a complaint.
