One thing we need to see in any Assassin’s Creed is the Leap of Faith. That death defying plummet from a high ledge is the signature move of the game series. Because of this, any movie hoping to capture the same lightning in a bottle as the game must feature this insane jump.
The Leap of Faith is an integral part of any assassin’s arsenal, allowing the assassin to escape capture or harm by leaping down from unimaginable heights to land safely in bales of hay far below. At one point it was an initiation requirement to join the Assassin’s Order, however the requirement has fallen out of practice in more modern times.
The prevailing thought of how to do this in a movie would be wire work, fancy camera angles, and more than a little bit of CG. You would be right, to an extent. The CG is scenery and background only. The leap, however, is very much a real thing, with a real person, jumping from 125 feet, into an air bag, with no ropes or wires.
Want to see how it was done? Take a look at the video below.
“One of the highest free falls performed by a stuntman in almost 35 years.”
I adore their commitment to authenticity. I know Ubisoft came right out and said they aren’t expecting this movie to be a hit, they are just hoping to sell more video games. But with this kind of attention to detail, they may have a hit on their hands. I’m excited to see it as are a few others I know.
It’s going to be a long wait until December.
