Elseworlds

Elseworlds is just a few weeks away and the Arrowverse stars are giving some details about what this year’s crossover is about.  According to Entertainment Weekly, the switch-a-roo between the Flash and the Green Arrow is all courtesy of rewrite of reality.  And there are new photos!

We’ve seen photos of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in the Green Arrow suit and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in the Flash suit. And this week there were two promos showing the two heroes trading more than clothes. Now we know that the reality change is courtesy of Arkham Asylum doctor John Deegan (Jeremy Davies). In this new reality, Barry looks like Oliver and vice versa. The Barry and Oliver that we know are the only two who know they have switched lives.

Gustin told EW.com that the whole situation becomes comedic. “We get to see Stephen do some of the more goofy speed stuff I have to do on a regular basis, and I get some actual combat as Green Arrow. So, we just see different colors for each of us.”

Amell adds, “The idea is that in order to be the best version of Barry Allen, which I have to be because we face a threat, there are elements of his personality I have to embrace, and there are elements of my personality that he has to embrace.”  So this should be a pretty funny crossover.  I love when Oliver is funny!

So how does Supergirl/Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) fit in? Supergirl is the only person who see them for who they really are. “She inevitably becomes kind of a middleman because ultimately there’s conflict between the two and they start butting heads.”  Ultimately, Supergirl becomes Barry and Oliver’s rock, keeping them on track to getting back to their reality.

Entertainment weekly also featured a new photo, seen above.  Supergirl, Amell as the Flash, John Wesley Shipp as another version of the Flash, and Gustin as the Green Arrow facing off with…someone.  Shipp isn’t the only announced cameo in Elseworlds.  Tyler Hoechlin returns as Clark Kent/Superman and the Legends of Tomorrow will make an appearance as well.

Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim gave some insight as to why the Legends were not featured in this crossover. “The hard thing about crossing over with Legends is, because that’s an ensemble show, you’re crossing over with the entire cast. That said, there is a Legends cameo in hour 3.”

The Flash showrunner Todd Helbring says this crossover brings back the feeling of individual episodes.  “The Flash kind of feels like a Flash episode, Arrow feels like an Arrow episode, Supergirl feels like a Supergirl episode.”  Which is awesome!  Last year’s crossover lost a little of those elements that make each show special.

A new photo of Batwoman (Ruby Rose) was also released yesterday.  There are no details about how she will fit into this story. Or how our heroes end up in Gotham.  I’m sure we’ll hear more very soon.  Like Gustin, I am so excited to see the Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl working side by side with Superman and Batwoman!  And to see what the Legends bring to the table!  Now!  About that Jensen Ackles rumor…

The CW Crossover Elseworlds begins Sunday, Dec. 9, with The Flash; continues Monday, Dec. 10 with Arrow; and concludes on Tuesday night with Supergirl.
