Stephen Amell puts away his bow and arrow for pro wrestling tights as he’s set to star in the upcoming Starz series, Heels, according to Deadline. The news comes as Amell is wrapping up production on the CW series Arrow.
Amell plays the owner and chief ‘heel’ of a small wrestling promotion. Michael Waldron wrote the script about two brothers who are rivals for the Duffy Wrestling Association, their father’s legacy. Mike O’Malley will serve as showrunner.
The term ‘heel’ refers to the villains in the pro-wrestling world. So this means we will get to see some of Amell’s bad boy side. ‘Face’ is the term used for the good guys.
Amell’s character is Jack Spade, described as ” the company’s hard-working owner, a husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realize his impossible dreams. With the mind of an artist inside a warrior’s body, Jack has a Steve Jobs-like need for perfection — and for control. He wants to build the DWA into an empire, which could risk his marriage and his relationship with his brother.”
This is perfect for Amell who is a big wrestling fan. He has wrestled a bit in live broadcasts for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Ring of Honor (ROH) and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
Waldron, O’Malley and LBI Entertainment’s Julie Yorn, Chris Donnelly and Patrick Walmsley executive produce on Heels.
There is no schedule premiere date as of yet. The final season of Arrow premieres Monday October 15 on the CW.
