Good morning fellow WEBTOON readers and welcome to this week’s installment of Saturday Morning Webtoons! This is where we shine a light on two WEBTOONs we are thoroughly enjoying. These stories have had us captivated chapter after chapter each week and we couldn’t pass up sharing them with you! So grab your favorite snacks, an electronic device and settle into these sensational stories.
DISCLAIMER: The following posts have possible spoilers for Archie Comics: Big Ethel Energy and Madame Outlaw.
Archie Comics: Big Ethel Energy

In collaboration with Archie Comics, Keryl Brown Ahmed and Siobhan bring us Archie Comics: Big Ethel Energy, a WEBTOON that brings us back to the world of Riverdale. The story follows Ethel, who found herself as the laughing stock of Riverdale, except now she is a successful New York journalist. When she is offered a healthy paycheck to return to Riverdale and write a town history, she decides it’s time to return home. And one of her goals is to take down Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and everyone else who made her life a living hell. But maybe, just maybe, the others have all changed just like she has.
When I think back to my childhood, Archie Comics is one of my favorite memories. There was just something about diving into the weekly comics and exploring the story. I always had a soft spot for Ethel and was excited when WEBTOON announced the collab to bring us a story based on her. And even better – it is set in the future after she has left Riverdale and started her new life. Reading each chapter is a mix of new story feelings with a kick of nostalgia as Ethel interacts with key characters from the original series. Archie Comics: Big Ethel Energy has been one of my comfort reads and is perfect for those who loved the original.

Madame Outlaw

Our second WEBTOON series is Junk Ren and WmW‘s Madame Outlaw. The historical drama series takes place in 1842 and follows Estelle as she sets off to avenge her brother’s murder and set herself free. But first, she needs to marry her brother’s killer Thaddeus, steal his coveted map of the Oregon Trail along with his horse-drawn carriage and stable boy and head west. With Thaddeus and his men hot on their trailer and her own growing band of runaways, this story has much higher stakes than everyone’s favorite education western video game. Will Estelle survive or will Thaddeus exact his revenge?
Historical WEBTOONs are my jam. Historical WEBTOONs with badass female protagonists is my jam and a half. Estelle features an IDGAF attitude and only has one thing on her mind, getting revenge. It is still early in this story, but Madame Outlaw has not disappointed me once. The series thrives in its historical themes and tones and mixes well with the mystery and suspense that Estelle faces. It is one epic rollercoaster adventure and when you think everything is going to be okay, think again. Fans of historical stories will find this a great read and you can’t go wrong with strong kickass Estelle!
Madame Outlaw updates every Friday and can be read here!
