Netflix’s Arcane Season 2

After a three-year wait, Netflix is ready to release Arcane Season 2. Since Season 1 was over six years in production, the technology behind its signature look and animation has clearly snowballed … much like the Hextech upon which Viktor (Harry Lloyd) and Jayce (Kevin Alejandro) shot to fame and glory.

At Geeked Week 2024, Netflix sweetened the already superb news of the second season’s premiere date with an exclusive sneak peek at the season AND a whole peripheral series, Afterglow, which will play after each week’s show to discuss and provide more information on each act as the season unfolds.

Vi’s Darkest Days

Unlike the clips they’ve revealed before, this newest one centers on Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and what looks like a self-destructive spiral after Jinx’s (Ella Purnell) destruction of the Piltover Council. Caitlyn’s (Katie Leung) mother, Cassandra (Abigail Marlowe), sat on that council, and from the looks of Vi here, her relationship with Caitlyn doesn’t survive Jinx’s act either.

Choosing to fund her self-medicating habits in the fight ring, Vi goes up against all the beasts the League of Legends catalog of nasties can throw at her. Meanwhile, from the throng of spectators, lil sis Jinx watches.

Jinx’s Endgame

Jinx’s damage runs deep. The trauma of her childhood, followed by Silco’s influence, has twisted her genius to a Joker-like anarchist bent. And yet, her need for her sister still drives her despite everything. The conflict within her will be either her demise or her salvation. I know which I’m rooting for, but there is only a shimmer of hope for that.

The clip also shows a montage of conflicts throughout Piltover and Zaun. Hextech appears to go haywire. Heimerdinger (Mick Wingert) — last seen sneaking back into his old offices with Ekko (Shannon Reed) — is caught up in something chaotic. A masked warrior woman looks victorious in battle.

Nothing to Lose Except Everything

The cities of Piltover and Zaun rely on and exploit each other, and their residents perpetuate that relationship. At least, they will until nothing is left.
