These April releases are no Joke! Welcome to the start of Quarter 2 of 2019! Now that the beginning of the year is past, we can now get into the thick of 2019’s video game releases. There are a number of remasters, re-releases, and brand new titles to pick up this month. Here are a few of our top picks:
Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey (PC)
If you’re a fan of classic point-and-click adventures, then prepare to dive into Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey. Throughout the title, you can play as Du Lac, Fey, or Mary Kelly. These three different characters feature their own set of actions and abilities within the world. And depending on the choices you make, character resolves can evolve and will determine which game ending you receive. Together, you’ll comb through the streets of Victorian London, attempting to stop the murders of Jack the Ripper before he claims another victim. But nothing is ever as it seems, especially when magic and mystery are involved. Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey released on April 5th and is now available on Steam for the PC.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
Final Fantasy fans, rejoice! If you’re anxiously awaiting the remake of Final Fantasy VII, why not pass the time with the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster? Revisit all of your favorite characters and moments from Final Fantasy X & X-2. Not only does this Remaster feature updated graphics and scores, but a plethora of previously region-locked content. Within Final Fantasy X, players can fight several more optional bosses, and utilize the Expert Sphere Grid which allows even more team customization. Likewise, Final Fantasy X-2 now features new minigames and extra Dresspheres for you to find and unlock. In addition, the Eternal Calm film, that connects X & X-2 together, is included within this collection as well as much more. If you’re a long time fan and want to relive Tidus’ remastered laugh, or if you’ve been curious about the Final Fantasy series, then this Remaster is for you. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be available on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on April 16th.
Mortal Kombat 11
Prepare yourself for plenty of Fatalities and gruesome gameplay with the next installment of the Mortal Kombat series: Mortal Kombat 11. Not only do your favorite characters from past Mortal Kombat titles return, but there are a few new characters who have joined the fight: Cetrion appears to be an elemental-based fighter, Geras manipulates the sand and stone around him, and the Kollector deals damage using his various trinkets in his many arms. But that’s not all! There are still a number of in-game characters that have not been announced. Prepare yourself for the brand new Custom Character Variation System! Now, you’ll be able to customize a number of elements for your favorite Mortal Kombat characters. From unique attacks and special moves, to hopefully even their apparel, you have the power to personalize YOUR Mortal Kombat experience! The Stages are very detailed, the Fatalities are VERY gruesome, and this game looks very fun! Mortal Kombat 11 will be available on the PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on April 23rd.
Days Gone
Venture into the Post-Apocalyptic landscape of Freakers and Humans in Days Gone. Originally announced back at E3 2016 , Days Gone became a highly-anticipated Sony Entertainment release. Jump into the shoes of Deacon St. John, and travel across the abandoned wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, stopping at settlements and surviving along the way. The environment may become one of your greatest foes as well, as the game has a day-night cycle with an advanced weather system that will alter each encounter. As a bounty-hunter and drifter, you’ll not only have to face off against hoards of “Freakers” but the horrors of de-civilized civilization as well. Unfortunately, the media embargo on Days Gone will not be lifted UNTIL April 25th, so we won’t get a good grasp of the game until right before it’s release. However, from demos and footage alone, this game looks very solid and I personally cannot wait to go explore the Post-Apocalyptic West Coast on Deacon’s motorcycle. Days Gone will be available on the PS4 on April 26th.
Overall
This April is a pretty standard video game release month. We’ve got a few new titles and remasters sprinkled in at the beginning of the month, culminating with some AAA releases in the last two weeks of April. Fortunately, this is the time of year when we’ll start to see more and more game announcements regarding the second half of 2019 and beyond. At the Star Wars Celebration, we heard about Respawn and EA‘s Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. And with E3 2019 on the way, we can expect major announcements in the coming months. But don’t worry! Geek Girl Authority has got you covered for your video game news needs. Keep watching our site and social media accounts for new articles, announcements, and more!
