Updated on:

Five more actors have been added as series regulars to Apple TV’s adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s seminal science fiction trilogy, Foundation.

In October we learned that Jared Harris and Lee Pace would be working on the show as Hari Seldon and Brother Day, respectively. Today, Variety reported that Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton have been added to the cast.

In Foundation, a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it. Pace is playing Brother Day, the Emperor of the Galaxy and Harris is Hari Seldon, a scientist who predicts the end of the empire through his theory of “psychohistory.”

Lou Llobell will play Gaal, a mathematical genius from a rural, repressed planet. Leah Harvey will play Salvor Hardin, the protective and intuitive warden of a remote outer planet. Laura Birn will star as Demerzel, the enigmatic aide to the Emperor of the Galaxy. Terrence Mann will star as Brother Dusk, the eldest living member of the ruling family. Cassian Bilton will play Brother Dawn, the youngest living member of the ruling family and next in line to be Brother Day.

If one were to read Asimov’s Foundation for the first time today, they may find it a bit sexist as far as gender is concerned. With the casting news of Gaal, Hardin and Demerzel, we see that that Apple and showrunner David Goyer are making sure that these roles are updated and neutral.

Apple’s Foundation adaptation will be 10 episodes. Skydance Television is the production studio behind the series. David Goyer is serving as showrunner and executive producer. Also serving as executive producers are the late author’s daughter, Robyn Asimov, Josh Friedman, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross.
