We’re stepping into a new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 5 of the mega-successful franchise will begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, bringing Jonathan Majors‘ villain, first introduced in Loki Season 1 (as He Who Remains), to the big screen. Marvel unveiled a new trailer for the final film in the Ant-Man trilogy. It appears to be a stark change in tone from the MCU’s typical comedic relief.
Here’s a synopsis for the flick per Marvel.com:
“Super Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and The Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.”

In the trailer, Kang the Conqueror (Majors) contacts Scott to offer him something he wants: time. As Janet notes, Kang can destroy and rewrite timelines, an incredibly deadly gift in this universe. Naturally, Scott is lured by the promise of retrieving the time he lost with his daughter courtesy of Thanos’ snap.
Of course, the “Be careful what you wish for” adage enters the picture. Scott’s desires come at a price, which he endeavors to pay despite the hefty risks. This trailer doesn’t boast Marvel’s trademark quippy humor or even some of the lightheartedness for which Scott Lang is known. This tonal shift indicates how dire the outlook is for our heroes. The stakes are higher than ever for Phase 5.
Side note: check out our live-action M.O.D.O.K.! While I’m still sore over Hulu canceling the delightful Patton Oswalt-led animated series, M.O.D.O.K. looks pretty imposing here.

Besides the cast mentioned above, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also stars David Dastmalchian as Veb, William Jackson Harper as Quaz, Katy O’Brian as Jentorra and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar. Peyton Reed is at the helm with a script from Jeff Loveness.
Check out the official poster, new images and the trailer below. Brace yourself for Scott Lang’s greatest battle when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on Friday, February 17, 2023.
