Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-to-Play games. As candles go out in the last few jack-o-lanterns of the season, we say goodbye to Halloween and our Fear-2-Play series. We explored free spooky games that ranged from horrific to macabre, so it only seems right to cleanse the palate with a lighter offering before the holiday rush begins. Today we play The 2024 update for The Annual Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival, a multiplayer seasonal communal art game with a wholesome vibe.

Content Advisor: This game features user-generated content and cannot be guaranteed appropriate for players of all ages or sensibilities. This is an online game. Any data you upload is probably not secure, so please don’t provide any personal information in a pumpkin’s name or on the pumpkin itself.

The Annual Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival

Every October, our countryside village is illuminated by hundreds of jack-o-lanterns carved by your fellow specters. Explore the annual festival with up to 200 other ghosts, carve a pumpkin, or try your hand at one of the mini-games. The cool autumn breeze will soon become the cold wind of winter, so enjoy the haunting season while it lasts.

Spooky regards,

The Basics

Let’s get down to the basics. The Annual Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival is by the creator adamgryu, who also made A Short Hike. These games are very different experiences the cozy, laid-back pacing and whimsical storytelling of their other projects carry over.

While there are certainly simulation and puzzle gaming elements, the communal art experience is what sets this game apart for many of the ghosties haunting the internet. The carving controls used to design your perfect pumpkin are easy enough for novice artists to complete their vision and complex enough to allow some community members to create truly impressive displays. Freedom of choice is a pillar of pumpkin carving and character creation.

Why Should I Play?

So why should you rejoin the Annual Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival? Obviously, this is a must-play to keep the spirit of Halloween alive before the jolly claws of winter dig into the year. There are only a few more short weeks to play wander the illuminated fields of Ghost Town’s pumpkin festival before it is gone for the year.

This game can be enjoyed for free but if you pay at least $2, you can download a special version that gives you access to various costumes and hats. These items are completely cosmetic and do not change any of the gameplay but go to support the creator and the seasonal souls that haunt the Ghost Town servers.
