Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.
We’ve talked about movies and television shows that remind us of TTRPG adventures in the past, and now we are ready to dive into anime series that do the same. When we aren’t able to sit around the table and adventure with our friends, the next best thing is cuddling up and diving into a series full of those same feelings. Everything from epic battles, to found family, to exploring a vast world with magic and excitement. This list is just a few of our favorite series and a great place for adventurers to dive in.

Log Horizon
Kicking off the list is a personal favorite of ours, Log Horizon. After a mysterious event, 30,000 video game players find themselves trapped in the world of Elder Tale. With no idea how to get out, the players turn their focus to learning to live in the world, forming alliances, and doing what they must to survive. The series follows a group of adventurers who started out more independent but, over time, come together as a family. The series is packed with action, high fantasy, RPG elements, and tons more to enjoy.
Seven Deadly Sins
Seven Deadly Sins is an incredible TTRPG anime series, but it might not be for everyone. It is a high fantasy adventure surrounding a group of ex-soldiers who have fallen out of favor with the world. Of course, they are the only ones who can protect everyone from an incoming calamity, so they come back together to save the world. The world building, epic battles and character story arcs are what we love. However, it does feature quite a bit of fan service, so if that isn’t something you enjoy, we suggest trying another series on the list.

Castlevania
While not a traditional anime, the American adult animated series Castlevania was something we knew we would love and was worth being on this list. Based on the equally popular video game franchise, the series follows Trevor Belmont and his mission to save the world, whether they like it or not. It is packed with some of the best fight scenes we have seen in an animated series in a long time. Plus, exploring the expansive world and lore behind the Belmonts and Dracula is worth watching repeatedly.
Fairy Tail
Our final must-watch TTRPG anime series is Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail. With over 300 episodes, tons of characters, and story arcs galore, there is a lot to enjoy. The series is set in a world where magic is everywhere, and those who can wield it join guilds to find work. It’s packed with all the traditional TTRPG elements we love, like found family, epic battles, world lore, and more. The story follows Lucy, a young girl who wants to be a full-fledged mage, and her epic adventures.
