Animal Sanctuary Update: Kylo Ren Bunks with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Seeks Millennium Falcon

Updated on:

Back in April, a Texas based animal sanctuary shared video of a white tiger cub named Kylo Ren battling a stuffed BB-8 toy. We instantly fell in love and began following the growth of the little guy. There have been some changes in Kylo’s life and we are here to provide you with the update! First, he has a new partner in crime and, secondly, they are trying to get their paws on Han Solo’s ship – and you can help make that happen.

Introducing: Obi-Wan Kenobi

In May, a tiger cub, a few months older than Kylo, was found inside an abandoned duffel bag at the Texas-Mexico border. He was quarantined and looked after by a zoo before being transferred to In-Sync Animal Exotics, the same sanctuary that houses Kylo. The two cubs spent time in close proximity to each other with fencing separating them so that they could become accustomed to each others’ scents. It was just another cage for the newly named Kenobi (after Obi-Wan Kenobi), having been moved around quite a bit since being found, but it was an intruder for little Kylo Ren. He seemed very curious with the newcomer.

Kylo Ren Officially Meets Obi-Wan Kenobi

When caretakers were sure Kylo Ren was big enough, the two were introduced in a controlled environment. At first, this was in Kylo’s living space so that the smaller cub would feel more confident and relaxed. The pair of cubs were off to a rocky start with little Kylo being very suspicious and antagonistic toward Kenobi while Kenobi was just trying to be friendly (it seems their namesakes took over!). With continued play dates in a temporary yard, they are slowly becoming the best of friends! The cubs are not quite yet sharing an indoor den area, but they are sharing an outdoor play yard and existing pool. However, it isn’t their permanent space.

Wanted: Millennium Falcon

All of the animals at In-Sync Exotics are cared for in the way that best suits them. For some, this means outdoor burrowing or climbing options. For others, like the tigers, this means a swimming pool, especially in the Texas heat. Keeping with the Star Wars theme the pair share in their names, the sanctuary would like to provide them with a unique water feature: a Millennium Falcon shaped pool! The artistic rendering below is not the final design, but it provides the general concept and size that will be built. The pool, built with special materials for durability, will provide a way to cool off in the heat and give the tigers a chance to practice their swimming. The waterfall and rock feature allows for exploring and climbing, something they would do in the wild. In order to get the ship-shaped water feature, however, your help is needed (find information about how you can help down below).

Bonus: Kylo Ren Battles Obi-Wan Kenobi

Kylo and Kenobi had a few ferocious play sessions together in the playground. A fan of the sanctuary “fixed” one of the photos that In-Sync Exotics shared and it just fits. Enjoy the only known lightsaber battle between Kylo Ren and Obi-Wan Kenobi!

We have loved watching Kylo Ren grow from a teeny furball to the playful cub he is today. The addition of Kenobi in his life may be what he needs to not stray so far to the dark side. We will continue to watch over the pair and report any interesting developments as they arise. Until then, may the Force be with you.

How You Can Help

Since the sanctuary is a nonprofit and they rely on donations, they are currently running a fundraiser to fund the project. This is where you can step up to help and leave a lasting mark at In-Sync Exotics. Direct donations are appreciated, but there are prizes and rewards available if you create your own fundraiser (details can be found at In-Sync’s website, HERE). If donating isn’t an option, simply spreading the news of the cubs and their lives together is greatly appreciated by the sanctuary. If you’d rather provide a donation for other projects and every day activities, they have an Amazon Wishlist and they are an available option for the AmazonSmile program.
