Pranks, dead drops and warring with firefighters — all in a day’s work on FOX’s Animal Control. Season 3 Episode 6, “Buffalo and Beavers,” finds Frank and Shred teaming up with Templeton to take down the firefighters after a prank gone too far. Any episode with Templeton is sure to be a hit. Meanwhile, Victoria helps Emily move on from Rick, who returns from Nepal with a rockin’ beard. Seriously. It works for him.
Anyway, “Buffalo and Beavers” is a delightful outing that bursts at the seams with this series’ signature low-stakes humor. It’s my comfort show.
Below, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite quotes from this episode. Proceed at your peril.

You Can’t Do Therapy Over Email
EMILY: “I did send two emails and then a follow-up text to everyone with zero replies, but here I am, in person again, just to say I’m taking a personal day.”
PATEL: “It kind of feels like this could’ve been an email, Emily.”
Emily (Vella Lovell) is me. I am she. We’re fans of overcommunicating, especially because we know those with whom we communicate usually don’t listen the first time … or the second … or the third. It’s best to cover all your bases, although sometimes, I’m of the same mind as Patel (Ravi Patel). Could that have been an email?

SHRED: “Guys, this is Emily’s business, and therapy is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
EMILY: “Thank you, Shred, but I’m not going to therapy.”
VICTORIA: “You don’t have to white knuckle it; we all need therapy.”
FRANK: “Don’t listen to her. Keep stuffing it down, sister. It works.”
Of course our boy Shred (Michael Rowland) is Team Therapy. He’s a man who’s comfortable with his masculinity and his emotions. Victoria’s (Grace Palmer) answer here is somewhat surprising, given how much in common she has with Frank (Joel McHale). However, Frank’s response is pure, unadulterated Frank. To chime in with these immortal words from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, “Stuff it down with some brown.” (Well, if that’s your jam.)

A Level Pickleball-Playing Field (or Court)
TEMPLETON: “Does that sound like a prank from the guy who turned your parking lot into a registered pickleball court?”
Templeton Dudge (Gerry Dee) is the unofficial Prank King. Sure, Frank swings for the fences with ideas like flooding Templeton’s precinct with incontinent beavers, but sometimes, the less fluids-related prank is the optimal choice. Plus, this would annoy employees trying to get to and from work. Although, I’m not a fan of making those poor doggies anxious because of all that noise. What did they do to you, Templeton?

EMILY [to tow truck driver]: “Wait, no, stop! That’s my car! That’s my boyfriend’s — it’s my ex-boyfriend’s — it’s, it’s a long story!”
Emily also loves to be specific, which is something else that profoundly resonates with me. Specificity is key, y’all. In this scenario, though, maybe a relationship definition is irrelevant.

The Sting of Betrayal
FRANK: “Shred, you’re a hostage.”
SHRED: “What? I just finished telling you how important it was to me that I’m a part of this prank.”
FRANK: “I know. You’ll be a big part of the next one, I promise.”
SHRED [pulls out phone]: “Wow. Betrayal selfie.”
Poor Shreddy. He spends the whole episode practically begging Frank to drop that four-letter word starting with “L.” He desperately tries to contribute to the prank instead of fulfilling his usual role as hostage or decoy. If I were him, I would’ve retaken that betrayal selfie until it looked sufficiently like I had been betrayed. No Frank in the back with a thumbs up for me.
