As we get closer to San Diego Comic Con, more and more details about The Walking Dead season nine seem to be emerging.  Although some bits of information are rumors right now, new showrunner Angela Kang has confirmed there will be a time jump going into season nine.

A time jump should come as no surprise to fans of Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead comic book. In the comics, the story jumps two years ahead after All Out War.  As for the television series, Kang did not say how far of a jump there will be, but she is optimistic about the show’s direction. At the Kick Ass Women of AMC Panel, Kang said season nine would have a fresh look and feel.

“I’m really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long lasting as well as servicing all of our wonderful series’ regulars.” – Kang

Kang said there will be a renewed focus on the women of TWD.  Fan favorites Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), and Carol (Melissa McBride) will have more compelling story lines this season. Be on the lookout for some exciting things for Enid (Katelyn Nacon) and Anne, a.k.a. Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) as well.  “I think we’re going to see Anne in a way that people will be very surprised,” said Kang.

Kang did not address the casting rumors that emerged in the past few weeks. The rumor is that Andrew Lincoln asked to be written out of the show this season. Cohan created quite a buzz with her new show Whiskey Cavalier  set to premiere this fall on ABC.  And past cast member Jon Bernthal‘s set visit sparked rumors that he would return for one episode and a Comic Con appearance.

TWD will be at San Diego Comic Con in a few weeks.  Fans should be getting their first trailer for season nine, and hopefully answers to the casting rumors.

The Walking Dead season nine returns in October on AMC.
