Several independent news sources are reporting his exit, saying Lincoln is only signed on for six episodes of the upcoming season. AMC is expected to officially announce Lincoln’s departure just before his final episodes. Lincoln is one of three original cast members still on TWD.
This comes after the news that Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee will appear in six episodes as well. Cohan held out signing a contract for season nine for higher pay. While she waited, Cohan signed on to another show, Whiskey Cavalier, premiering next fall on ABC. ABC has since ordered a full series for Whiskey Cavalier.
Can the world survive without Rick Grimes? Possibly, although Collider.com reports that AMC has offered a huge deal for Norman Reedus to take over the lead of the show. Seeing as how Daryl Dixon has always been a fan favorite, the show could go on past season nine.
What do you think? Is this the end of The Walking Dead television series? I am torn. Being a fan of the comic book series, there is so much more story that I’d like to see played out. I am looking forward to a fresh approach to the story with Angela Kang as the new showrunner. On the other hand, it has been nine years since the apocalypse began. The show has lost some of it’s intensity. Can the show get back to the height of it’s run?
We will definitely be keeping an eye on this stories as it develops. The Walking Dead returns in Fall 2018 on AMC.
