The Anansi Boys cast is coming together! The Hollywood Reporter reveals exclusively that Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn and Grace Saif will portray the female leads opposite Malachi Kirby and Delroy Lindo in the Amazon Studios adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s fantasy novel.
St. Aubyn plays Rosie Noah, a teacher and the fiancée to Charlie Nancy (Kirby, also portraying Nancy’s brother Spider). Nancy serves as the hero of Anansi Boys. The Hollywood Reporter describes Rosie Noah as “cheerful, wise, good-humored and kind.”
Saif portrays Detective Constable Daisy Day, deeply involved in intertwining police cases. THR writes that she’s “smart, efficient, determined and very funny.”
As reported by THR, Lindo was previously cast on the series as Mr. Nancy/Anansi.
Anansi Boys, published in 2005 by Gaiman, tells the tale of Charlie Nancy, who discovers the truth about his estranged father, Mr. Nancy, after the latter passes away. Mr. Nancy was Anansi, a trickster god of stories. Nancy also learns he has a brother, Spider, who “is determined to make Charlie’s life much more interesting but also a lot more dangerous.”
Amazon Studios’ sixth-episode limited series will shoot in Scotland this year. Gaiman’s other project, Good Omens, currently films its second season.
Gaiman had this to say regarding St. Aubyn and Saif’s casting:
When you are casting something on the scale of Anansi Boys you need female leads who are as accomplished, charming, and brilliant as, well, Malachi Kirby in both his incarnations. Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn and Grace Saif are those women. [They’re] both funny, honest, brilliant actresses, and you will fall in love with both of them.
Bring it on! Gaiman is one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to see what Anansi Boys has in store for us.
