Hulu has announced exclusively to the Hollywood Reporter that they have handed out a script order for an adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor‘s three part African futuristic novella, Binti. Insert screaming and dancing here! The story follows a young girl named Binti from the Himba ethnic group based closely on the Himba people. She is the first of her people to join the prestigious intergalactic university, Oomza Uni. But this is where things change, she is unhappy with this news and runs away from home. This is where the real adventure begins.
The script for the adaptation will be written by Nnedi Okorafor as well as Stacy Osei-Kuffour, known for her work on Watchmen and PEN15. Studio Media Res headed by former HBO drama head Michael Ellenberg is responsible for bringing this to the little screen. Binti is beyond worthy of this adaptation. The novella has won awards from both Hugo and Nebula in 2015 and 2016. If you have not gotten the chance to read the novella yet, you can find it on Amazon.
Binti does not have a release date just yet, but stay tuned with us for upcoming announcements!
