When I first caught a glimpse of Amy Schumer’s GQ magazine photo shoot, I was super excited. How could I not be? It was a Star Wars themed photo shoot, what geeky girl doesn’t dream of this…but then I saw the cover and I thought hmmm…ok, nothing wrong with being sexy but who knows where C3PO’s finger has been.
and then I saw this photo….
And I immediately thought back to her her fabulous and empowering speech at the Glamour Awards in which she thanked them for being different then other magazines. That more often than not, and I’m paraphrasing, when a magazine does a photo shoot with female comedians they want them to be “cum dumpsters” and put plastic dicks over their heads, and Glamour was the first magazine to say “just be you.”
So, what happened? First of all I am not saying you can’t be sexy or sexual. It is a part of who we are as humans and I love a good Slave Leia costume as much as the next person. I also love Amy Schumer and I love how empowering her comedy is so when I see her giving a lightsaber a blow job I feel disappointed and let down. Also lets talk about the logistics of putting a lightsaber in your mouth. You would destroy your face. Duh.
But the kick line brought me back on board. I’m totally into dancing Stormtroopers…..
I also saw Trainwreck this weekend and it’s glorious. Non-stop laughs and incredibly touching. I cried. So, I’ll forgive the ridiculous lightsaber blow job picture. Just don’t let it happen again, you’re better than that Amy, and stick to more of this….
And kids…don’t put lightsabers in your mouth. Nothing good can come of it, you’ll just have a big hole in your face.
