Alright my Dark Delight lovers, it’s our favorite time of year again! That’s right its American Horror Story time and this time it’s getting Freaky!
We open with a girl wandering into fair grounds of some sort, narration of her diary marks her saying this was the doomed day, when she entered the Freak show.
Head on over to Jupiter, Florida in 1952 where a milk man discovers a murdered woman. The sole survivors of the house seem to be too horrible to show. The horror of this freak is soon revealed, when we find out that the girls that have survived are in fact Siamese Twins, and everyone who is supposed to be a medical professional seems to be cruel and close minded about this. Going with that trend we find out that no one knew about the twins because their mother kept them hidden.
Enter a mysterious woman, Frauline Elsa, to the hospital the twins are staying at. The Frauline sneaks in as a candy striper to see the mysterious freak the hospital is hiding. She is in awe when she finds the pretty twins. She shows them the first kindness they’ve seen, causing them confusion between the two sisters. One sister, Bettie, is so trusting and enticed, and the other, Dottie, so guarded.
Lake Okeechobee, Jupiter, Florida: A couple makes out. The girl is quite forward and wants more. The boy goes to get something from his car for the girl, when who should happen upon this picnic but a terrifying clown who decides to give her a one-women show while she waits for her boyfriend. He comes back, and both of them are quickly knocked out. The girl wakes up to her boyfriend being stabbed with scissors and makes a run for it.
Meanwhile at a diner people are reading up on murder while Elsa adds things to her scrapbook. All that soon ends when she spots a stud at the end of the diner, but one who freaks. The lobster boy who isn’t supposed to be wandering around and is more than happy to say who cares their being evicted. It turns out to be true. He tells her the freak show is over, but Elsa assures him that she has a plan. They leave the diner without paying, because stars never pay.
What seems like a Tupperware party in the 50s turns out to be a freak show sex party where girls get finger banged by lobster boy. Yeah well… so that happened. Elsa is back with the twins getting their tale. Apparently a burglar came in and strangled by her own necklace while doing a needlepoint, or really, they are just telling movie plots to try and get away with murder.
The clown killer is at it again, this time going to people’s houses, murdering a couple and abducting an 8 year old boy.
The clown has been keeping the little boy and the girlfriend in a broken down bus. For what purpose, is uncertain. He returns with a clown toy that plays music. The girl turns to him, saying he’s so talented. Release us so we can tell the world. He laughs and does more tricks, makes a balloon animal, but gets angry when the balloon breaks and begins destroying everything in the bus. Things are looking bleak in clown land. As one would suspect.
Back to the twins, who are fleeing their home, but not before Elsa comes to tell them she’s their only hope. We find out the twins killed their mother, well, Bettie to be exact, and Dottie stabbed Bettie in order to provide them a defense. Which we knew, and that Elsa is here to save them.
We hear the other sister this time Bettie, who seems to think the day she walked into the freak show was the greatest day of her life. And she is in awe of movies and is so happy to be surrounded by stardom and beauty. But Dottie is missing her farm, and she hates the depravity that she is surrounded by. They are both taken by Jimmy Darling (lobster boy) with his charm and well… let’s face it he’s hot.
Meeting the bearded lady tells her story of being rescued from the drunk tank. She says this is a great place. And Elsa is lying to the police to keep them from persecuting the twins. The freaks are hassled by some town locals who throw beers at them and run. Jimmy is sick of it, sick of being treated so horribly. Enter the candy striper who was obviously drugged and kept here so Elsa could get to the twins. She wants to leave and tell the cops, but it seems that a little video was made that might change her mind. A video of freak show orgies, and her, enjoying every minute of it. She still wants to tell, but Elsa gives an epic speech of how freaks aren’t monsters the people out there with their mundane lives and weird exotic fantasies. She is defeated.
Jimmy is doing sex parties with his mom, the bearded lady, as organizer. But he’s tired of this life. The police arrive and try to arrest the twins for their mother’s murders and the other murders. Jimmy calls the rest of the freaks to defend the girls. Jimmy stabs the cop in the neck, taking care of that threat, for now, at least. The bodies are piling up it seems.
Twins have attracted a few takers. A mother and her bratty son come to the freak show. We open with Elsa singing Life on Mars. Yup, a Bowie song performed with glitter and freaks. It’s everything I love! The bratty boy and his mother want to buy the twins for 10,000 bucks, but they decline and say this is their new home. Oh, the warm fuzzies. Well, not for long because the killer clown just entered the fair grounds, creepily riding the carousel.
In a bizarre late night parade, the actors of the freak show bring the body of the cop to a clearing. Jimmy leads in a coup. ”If they want to treat us like monsters we’ll act like monsters!” Jimmy proclaims, just before they dismember the body of the cop. The Killer clown is a lookie loo watching the whole thing.
Back at the tent, Elsa confesses she wants to be a star and that’s why she brought those girls here. Really? Elsa is sadly revealed as a freak herself when she reveals, she actually has no lower legs. She listens to music as she unfastens her fake legs and cries.
Wow! Freak Show started with a bang. The clown well. I foresee myself never sleeping again. So many characters haven’t been introduced yet, but I have a feeling this year will be more sinister and bloody than ever. It’s a great thing for this gal!
