Summer camp will never be the same again. American Horror Story: 1984 released a brand new trailer today, giving fans a little insight into the story. The popular horror series hit the rewind button on time to give us a good ol’ serial killer story. There’s teased hair, neon jackets and a whole lot of gore.
The trailer opens with two girls at a summer camp exploring their sexuality. Everything’s going good until a man in a black jacket with jingling keys enters the cabin and kills all the girls inside. We then hard cut to a sexy jazzercise class (if you can believe that) that introduces us to our main characters. One of the teens was able to get a job as a camp counselor and invites the group to go. All of them seem onboard except for Brooke (Emma Roberts). She had her own run in with a serial killer and somehow survived. It seems she’s convinced to go because the teens load into a van and head to camp. Things are immediately uneasy as the kids seem to run over a mysterious man, they learn the camp had the worst “summer massacre” of all time, and a killer is on the lose. Mr. Jingles. Their camp experience is about to get really bloody.
If this trailer tell us anything, it’s that this season is filled to the brim with archetypes and a crazy amount of homages. The trailer and all of the teases leading up to it all read exactly like the popular slasher films from the 1980s. Friday the 13th, Halloween, and so many more. Showrunner Ryan Murphy very clearly did his homework. How will his killer, Mr. Jingles, stand out among the other classic killers? We won’t have to wait long to see.
