American Horror Story is on it’s way back! In the ninth season of the show, they’re bringing it back to the ’80s with American Horror Story: 1984. It’s the perfect year and setting for all the gory goodness coming our way. The teaser trailer is less than a minute but we immediately understand what the show is going for.

A big group of teenagers are on their way for a summer they’re unlikely to forget. If they survive it. They’re drinking and just having a grand ol’ time, excited to be going to Camp Redwood. In fact, they’re so excited that they miss the giant “Beware” on the back of the camp sign. They also miss that they’re bringing someone along for the ride. The kids all seem to make it to camp alright as they’re hanging out in the sand, diving into the lake. One girl takes in the rays by laying in a boat. Which is too bad for her because she becomes the first victim as the killer jumps out of the water to stab her.

The trailer gives a whole lot of Friday the 13th vibes here. The killer is even wearing a mask and wielding a large knife at a camp. So this season is definitely going back to it’s slasher roots. It would be pretty cool if the show maintained this aesthetic in the show but as fans know, these trailer are only supposed to give us impressions and feelings rather than an actual look at the show. This season will be a nice break from the epic crossovers and end of the world story lines.
