Starz is bringing us some casting news for American Gods and it does not disappoint. According to Deadline, they’ve cast 3 key roles for the upcoming second season, one of which is replacing Gillian Anderson‘s Media. The series based on Neil Gaiman‘s work enthralled audiences in 8 episodes last year. And fans should expect even more goodness after hearing the casting!

Dean Winters (John Wick) has been cast as Mr. Town, a New God who works for Mr. World (Crispin Glover). He’s tasked to find out what Shadow (Ricky Whittle) knows about Mr. Wednesday’s (Ian McShane) plans. Devery Jacobs (The Order) has been cast as Sam Black Crow, a college student who apparently carves chainsaw art on the side of the road. Noted as being fierce, cynical, and living life openly. Most notable casting comes from Kahyun Kim (Shameless) as New Media, who takes over for Media. She’s the goddess of global content and a master of manipulation.

I really, really enjoy the casting of Jacobs and Kim. Jacobs is Native descent and was raised in the Kahnawàke Mohawk Territory. The character of Sam in the books is half-Cherokee. So it’s thrilling they cast the part not only appropriately, but gave a much needed representation. Kim is a South Korean native who went to college in the States. I’m excited that they cast an Asian woman, as they also need to be more represented in our media. I can’t wait to see what both actresses bring to the table.
