AMC announced another The Walking Dead spin off series, Isle of the Dead. The series stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffery Dean Morgan as the explosive pair Maggie and Negan. This is the fifth spinoff series in the works in the TWD universe.
According to the AMC press release, Cohan and Morgan will also serve as executive producers. TWD writer Eli Jorné will serve as showrunner with Scott M. Gimple overseeing the project.

Cohan is excited about the continuing story. She says, “Maggie is very close to my heart and I’m excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Eli Jorné has created something incredibly special, and I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.”
Morgan is just as elated, saying, “It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better. Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe.”
This is interesting because of how Maggie and Negan met. The night the duo met; Negan killed Maggie’s husband Glen (Steven Yeun). (I’m still not over that!) Maggie left in season nine while Negan was locked up. The two characters were reunited at the end of season 10, as Negan was slowing being accepted by the Alexandria community. And though Maggie is showing a lot of restraint, Negan recently left the community knowing it was a matter of time before she got her revenge. And now they’re going to explore New York City together? What! I for one can’t wait to see what’s in store for Maggie and Negan. And how they resolve their issues … or … if they resolve the issues.
Here’s the synopsis:
Isle of the Dead envisions the popular Maggie and Negan characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Isle of the Dead, a TWD spin off is set to premiere in 2023.
